U.S. solar energy industry is a booming one

Bill O'Reilly's column, "Don't punish Americans for failure of green energy," on Oct. 1 fails to paint an accurate picture of America's energy resources, now and into the future.

Securing a strong economy and national security for America requires a mix of all energy resources. All solutions developed to meet the nation's high energy demands require a serious investment and commitment from public and private sectors.

As U.S. energy needs grow, a responsible "all of the above" approach must encourage the continued development and use of all our domestic energy resources, including solar.

Throughout our history, every energy resource in America has enjoyed permanent federal support, including oil, nuclear, natural gas and coal.

Current support for the solar industry has been in place only since 2006 and has suffered unpredictable starts and stops that impede development.

Investment in solar is paying dividends for all Americans. The U.S. solar energy industry is booming, employing over 100,000 Americans, according to a census of The Solar Foundation. They work at 5,000 companies, mostly small businesses, in all 50 states.
