Energy Pipeline to hit stands Monday

Greeley Publishing Co. will unveil its newest venture Monday in the form of a magazine devoted to coverage of the oil and gas industry in northern Colorado and beyond.


The inaugural edition of the monthly magazine Energy Pipeline, a full glossy print publication, will hit the newsstands and more than 6,000 mailboxes this week.

The magazine will feature the people, technological innovations and companies that have helped Weld County’s and the state’s economy soar in the last few years with the advent of horizontal drilling coupled with hydraulic fracturing.

Covering the industry with a devoted magazine was a move that was a long time coming, said Greeley Publishing Manager Bart Smith.

“We realize it’s huge, the oil and gas business is almost overwhelming in stature, and it appears to be here for the very long term,” Smith said.

“It’s somewhat similar to Weld’s ag industry in that the mass media, such as the Trib, television or radio, put a lot of extra coverage on it, but it deserves more than that.

“To cover it adequately, it really needs its own publication. It became apparent there’s a demand and a need for a publication that specializes in this burgeoning industry.”

Energy Pipeline will focus on the people and stories of the Wattenberg and beyond as exploration companies tap new production areas in Weld County’s backyard.

In this first edition, reporters focus on the longterm outlook of the Wattenberg, emerging “game-changing” technology, and the tightening employment market that is becoming a larger issue for companies in and out of the drilling fields.

The publication also offers features on oil and gas executives, field workers, and the myriad support companies that have become essential cogs in the industry machine, from maintenance to tool supplies to water and beyond.The idea is to connect the players within the industry.

“One of our core objectives is connecting communities,” Smith said of Greeley Publishing.

“Those communities are people interested in reading about business, but also connecting business with customers.”

Smith sees the magazine as a long-term venture that will grow.

“We hope to grow with the industry and learn from it as to what people want to read and what’s most important to them and how we can be most effective,” Smith said.
