In the wake of a UK competition inquiry into the "Big Six" energy companies, independent supplier Economy Energy reports a 45% increase in take up as customers scramble to find the best deals.
Independent energy provider, Economy Energy, has reported a 45 per cent rise in customer numbers over the past 12 months as customers continue to search for the best energy deals available in a bid to cut rising power costs.
The company, which offers a single tariff no matter how customers pay, was set up in October 2012 to offer an alternative to the big six energy companies and now supply over 50,000 customers.
Smaller energy companies are regulated by Ofgem, so are subject to the same trading regulations as the larger players in the market.
Paul Berridge, marketing and sales compliance manager at Economy Energy, said: “Our customer numbers increased as consumers’ dissatisfaction with on-going price rises from the big 6 continues.
“Customers are telling us that continual price rises are pushing them into the red and that the huge array of tariffs on offer is confusing. They just don’t know if their suppliers are giving them the best deal or not.
“That’s why we offer a single tariff – customers know exactly what they pay for their power and only pay for what they use as we have no standing charge. To keep costs even lower, we don’t advertise and we’re not on any comparison sites.
“Households and businesses across the UK are struggling to keep on top of energy bill payments and smaller companies, like ourselves, can provide a much cheaper alternative. On average, an Economy Energy dual fuel customer saves between 10% and 20%.
Paul added: “We operate a lean organisation to ensure we always provide the best value for our customers. Our promise is simple – we’ll keep our energy costs as low as possible.”
"We welcome the news that an inquiry will be undertaken to encourage a fairer and more competitive energy market in the UK.
Businesses and domestic customers deserve more choice and freedom to switch" Economy Energy is an independent energy provider, based in Warwickshire.
Established in 2012, the company was set up by Directors who have previously worked at the "Big Six" UK Energy companies.
The company was established to provide an alternative choice to the main players in the market and provide consumers and businesses a reduced tariff.
